About

In the distant past (well, 2002/3), I wrote a very small and basic online game.  It was called theWulfen.  The intention of the game was to teach me how to program in PHP and specifically using MySQL in a web environment.  It was around the time that there was an influx of games that sent out emails with a “you have been attacked by Fred, click here to attack them back” and gave you benefits if anybody clicked on the link.  I felt I could do better, and thus started coding.  I passed the website onto two friends who in turn passed it onto other people they knew.  When I finally stopped working on the game, it had over 6000 people registered.

Originally I had intended to create theWulfen 2 (aka W2) for release in the middle of 2006, that’s almost two years ago and I’ve never got round to doing anything to it.

Well, theWulfen came out over five years ago – half a decade…  I’m now fully employed as a Web Developer and am pretty much at the top of my game in coding in PHP & using MySQL.  I also can do numerous clever things in JavaScript, albeit with the use of various JS extensions.

So in an effort to ‘gee me along’ with W2, I’ve setup this blog for the new version of the game.

W2 is going to be more along the lines of an online RPG.  I’m not going to be considering doing group play (as I personally prefer solo), but there will be a PvP type fighting pits, as it was frequently asked for when the original was running.  The game will have much more depth to it than before and will be much larger.  My intention is to give each player a unique atmospheric experience that encourages them to come back.  There will be a paid content element as well, as I need to make some return on my time spent.  Finally I will be commissioning artwork to be created, as any game requries rich graphics.

I’ve got lots of ideas, so fingers crossed I should be able to pull this off!  I shalln’t be committing to a time scale either, so don’t ask.
